This is a very good product (although I do wish it was widescreen). Runs at 1280x1024 resolution at 60hz, 4ms response time, and 1400:1 contrast ratio. Great monitor 5/5

US $70.00

I bought a 24 inch monitor from samsung.. belive it or not it sucked.. costed a lot of money and basically there where no way to customize setting… and it was too big for my desktop tooi have exchanged that for a flatron 1942TE monitor.. best monitor I ever had..tons of setting, GREAT image quality digital input and cost 1/3 than the Samsung..so something cheaper is not always less good than what is more expensive….LG makes great monitors I highly reccomend it..
I have had expensive dvd/rw from sony and samsung that broke within 6 months and the lg keeps on burning roms after 2 years.
I just got the 24″ (a newer model) and it’s the best monitor I’ve ever owned.
are you using your Fujifilm finepix j10 digital camera on this? becasue i am trying to figure out what a video filmed with it on youtube would look like
Yes I am
i got the 22 inch
My cousin has LG L196WTQ its 1440×900 and its contrast ratio is 5000:1 and 2 ms response time its 19 inch and its aspect ratio is 16:10 (widescreen) ITS really good
It Like Power conservation mode you could just turn the screen off or go into forte manager and mess with settings
after sitting idle for a certain amount of time, the screen will turn off (standby mode) to conserve power…that’s probably all it is.
hey i have the same exact problem with this monitor it happens when a play a certain game on the computer know what i should do thx

Contrast ratio is the ratio (comparison) of the brightest whites to the darkest blacks the TV can produce. The contrast ratio that you read in brochures and in manuals or tech specifications are urm… how can I say this… UNACHIEVABLE. This means that while your TV has a CR (contrast ratio) of 30,000:1, it is actually closer to 3,000:1, and while your friend has 3,000:1, it might be closer to 300:1. Only Sony advertises the true contrast ratio under the name of "On-screen contrast ratio". If your friend has a Sony and his on screen CR is 3,000:1, then that is the true CR. You CR is the advertised one, and the only way to know the contrast ratio is with a light meter (that is, if your set is not a Sony.
The difference is TVs with lower CRs cannot display black properly, rendering them gray. (remember them old tubes, they had no problem displaying blacks, but LCD and some plasmas have the drawback of terrible blacks). When gray is shown instead of black, the image will look washed out. TV with higher contrast ratio display darker blacks, and thus produce a more lifelike picture.
Dynamic contrast: you know that LCDs use backlights (lights positioned behind the screen) to illuminate the whole image. This means that it can dim the backlight in dark scenes to darken the blacks (thus achieving higher CR, darker blacks/whiter whites = higher CR). The drawback of lowering the backlight is that all the image is dimmed. This means, if there is a bright object against a black background the backlight is obliged to brighten so that the bright object becomes visible. The brightening of the backlight brightens the black part of the screen, thus reducing the contrast ratio.
*Note: Contrast ratio differences can only be perceived in a dark room, with no lights at all.
“look at contrast ratio of …Eizo and LaCie, they are supposedly much "lower" than the monitors we tend to buy…” exactly
For what you are talking about, there really arn't a lot of things that I can think of that would fit for what you want. One I can think of is response time. This will impact the time you have to react to situations in games so the lower the response time the better. I would go for somewhere around 8 milliseconds or lower. Other than that, there really isn't much that fits what you want. Brightness and contrast, stuff like that doesn't really make a difference because they are all about the same and can be adjusted anyway. If you want higher quality go for a DVI monitor instead of VGA, but once again a game will work just as good on VGA so this really isn't a big deal, but is better for the occasional movie.
One thing that you might look at is whether or not the screen is protected with a glass coating. If it is, there will often be a glare where there would not be if you didn't have the glass. If you want to touch the monitor a lot, get the glass, if not, then don't. I have a non glass one and have had no problems except the occasional friend that pokes it and it messes with the color. Just be careful.
Other than these things, I can't think of anything that will be a big deal for gaming. All monitors come with certain resolutions that games support so no big deal here either. I have a basic LCD that I use for games and have no problems with it, everything works great! Basically, pick the monitor you want, it should work good.
Hope this helps!

The ability for an LCD TV to display fast moving objects has been a problem in the past. It has improved dramatically and a good measure of how an LCD handles fast moving objects is the response time. The lower the response time the better.
Contrast ratio, or the degree of variation of the whitest and darkest parts of the image, is a very important factor. If the LCD TV has a low contrast ratio, dark images will look muddy and gray, while light images will look washed out.
If you watch a lot of action movies or fast moving sport then the response time is more important. If you watch a lot of horror movies with lots of dark scenes then contrast ratio would be the higher consideration.
If you still have your manual, they may have stated the safety criterias that comes with the monitor. Most of technologies nowadays are quite safe to use in a duration of regular working hours, especially when this is a flatscreen and not a crt monitor. However, whenever possible, it's still always better to refrain from being exposed too long. ANYTHING above the normal no matter how good will become bad.

Guess you could go to Control Panel and choose power settings and see if there is something turning off your display after some time of innactivity. Perhaps the monitor itself has some settings? Search through it's options accessed through buttons on the front of the display?
This is a trick that's very dependent on the game itself. If the game is going "full screen" then your video card will not render anything else except the game (leaving any secondary monitors blank). However, some games (such as World of Warcraft) allow you to run the game in a "windowed" mode that's maximized to use the whole screen. This shows up as a "windowed" video game to the video card, and therefore it will render your start menu and other Windows elements, but it will be sized to take up your whole screen and it will not have a boarder.
This sort of mode seems almost entirely designed for people with multiple monitors that wish to make use of secondary monitors while gaming (or span the game across multiple screens).
Of course, this is only available in select games. Try playing around with display options in your game. Look for windowed modes, they're your best option. See if there might be some sort of "hack" you can do to make it display in a maximized window. Check the game's forums or do a google search.
